Anyone got this book, Nibble Munch Chomp, the art and science of feeding your pet?

Finally a pet food receip cookbook that doesn't have that many herbs in it! its by Dr. Sarah Herbert, Senior Vet at the Lort Smith Animal Hospital, lol this book even got receipies for humans that can be modified for pets!

Dogs are they Carnivores? Are they really like wolves, hyenas, jackals? or Are they more like us? Is it foolish to feed them only meat? Should they be fed what there human family eats? The Truth encompasses a little of each.

In the wild, other hunting animal that seem similar to dogs, such as Wolves, hyenas eat fruit, leaves, grasses, dig for roots and even obtain vegetable matter from the stomach of their prey."
Dog's are omnivores

Wow one of the few book that have been give a really thorough planning and the truth for a change! it includes recepies for dogs, cats, ferrets, birds, reptiles, rabbits and guinea pigs, rodents.

This strike me as i been concern about the protein levels in some of the store brought holistic pets foods, some are just ridiculous high 35% protein even higher at 52%, that at really dangerous levels and if fed at this rate everyday from 8weeks to adult hood, will eventually strain the kidney and lead to early kidney failure in average pet dogs, which in turn will shortern there lifespan!! 35%protein should be perfectly fine for husky or akita n full sled work 7days, 365days a year! I think the 52%protein will strain these kidney also though! Pet dogs need a minimu of 18%protein!

I know these people have said this won't happen, but Guess what? I contacted these people and they said they weren't created BY VETS! So how can you believe someone who doesn't have a degree in vet nutrition!

this book i brought is properly balance diet for all pets and is created by a Senior vet who know her stuff!! even diabetic diets receipies for dog that won't eat prescription foods
this is the 1st book that really impressed me on home- cooking for pets!

HERE IS a good indication of protein and fat levels for each lifestage!

Species and Growth StageRecommended Protein %Recommended Fat %
Puppy
Protein 28%
FAT 17%

Adult dog
protein 18%
fat 9-15%

Performance
Protein 25%
fat 20%

Racing sled dog;
protein 35%
fat 50%

Lactating dog
Protein 28%
FAT 17%

Pregnant and lactating dogs may need to be fed puppy chow to give them the necessary protein. Sick, weak, and debilitated animals also need extra protein. Animals with kidney disease may need to be on a protein-restricted, but high biological value diet to lessen the effects of the kidney disease.
